About George by George
While still in High School I was fortunate enough to sit in with members of the Asbury Jukes at the Stone Pony, then with John Cafferty and Beaver Brown and Gary Tallent from Bruce Springsteen's E. St. Band at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park. A few months later I met Bruce who gave me advice on the music business. Then I started jamming with John Bongiovi's "Atlantic City Expressway" that was before he became "Bon Jovi". About two years later I started working at Record Plant NYC where I worked with J. Geils, REO Speedwagon, Heart, Meatloaf and many others.
In 1981 I started my own record label and opened Stardust Recording Studio. 1981 was also the first year that I got invited to the Grammy Awards. Been invited every year since but I digress..... From 1985-1987 I was a member of the Persuaders. I played trumpet, trombone, tenor and alto sax, as well as doing lead and background vocals and playing keyboards. The band put out one single and although we started recording an album it was never released. After the band broke-up I focused on writing, engineering and producing.
My first break after The Persuaders came when I met Kevin Hedge and I engineered "If U Should Need a Friend" for his group Blaze. I also played the trumpet solo at the end of that record. That record opened the floodgates. Sly Stone heard the song and decided he wanted me to record him. He and I ended up writing together. Over the years, Al Green, Diana Ross, Earth Wind and Fire, Mary J. Blige, the Winans and many many others ended up having their records recorded or remixed at Stardust.
I got a deal as a Warner Chappell songwriter and ended up playing sax, keyboards, horns etc. on a whole slew of "records". This site is going to have some of my hit records and some of my songwriter demos as well as songs that I played on for other people. Kind of a "discography" of my years in the music business. Hope you enjoy it.
